Reef Relief is proud to announce Plastic Free Key West, a collaboration with the City of Key West, has reached more than 60 local businesses, marking a major milestone in the community’s ongoing effort to reduce single-use plastics and protect the fragile Florida Keys ecosystem.

Participating businesses span a wide range of industries, including restaurants, bars, hotels, retailers, and service providers, all committed to reducing plastic waste through practical, sustainable alternatives. By joining Plastic Free Key West, these businesses pledge to minimize or eliminate single-use plastics such as bags, cutlery, bottles, and Styrofoam, while educating customers and staff about responsible consumption.

“This level of participation shows that Key West businesses care deeply about our environment and our future,” said Alicia Manfroy, Program Manager. “Reducing plastic pollution is not just an environmental issue – it’s a community responsibility, and our local businesses are leading by example.”

Plastic pollution poses a significant threat to marine life, coral reefs, and coastal economies. The Florida Keys are particularly vulnerable, making local action essential. Plastic Free Key West works collaboratively with businesses to provide guidance, resources, and recognition for sustainability efforts.
