Bull, Scism Lead Superboat Unlimited Class After 1st Race

KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) — Offshore powerboat racers Bob Bull and Randy Scism topped the Superboat Unlimited class in the Key West World Championship on Wednesday, the first of three days of racing off the Florida Keys.
Bull of Melbourne and Scism of Wentzville, Missouri, jumped in front in the 52-foot CMS 3 and stayed there throughout the race.
Defending champion Miss Geico, piloted by Riviera Beach racers Marc Granet and Scott Begovich, suffered a mechanical breakdown midway through the 43-mile contest.
Team Amsoil, owned by Bob Teague of Valencia, California, won in Superboat, and Hooters-Instigator, owned by Peter Meyer of Port Washington, New York, topped the Superboat Extreme class.
Racing continues Friday and Sunday.
