74′ Topsail Schooner WOLF named City of Key West Flagship on May 16, 2023
We have exciting news!
The Conch Republic’s Flagship Wolf was named official Flagship of the City of Key West on a unanimous vote by the City Commission on May 16, 2023.
The city resolution states: “Whereas, the city commission desires to honor the seventy-four foot, topsail Schooner Wolf, Flagship of the Conch Republic, as an iconic maritime treasure of the City of Key West…”
Built in 1984 by the Conch Republic’s First Sea Lord, ADM Finbar, Flagship Wolf is a 74′ topsail schooner, reminiscent of those plying the Florida Straits in the 19th Century.
ADM Finbar started Key West’s first Sail Charter company in 1973, and specifically designed Wolf for passenger sails departing from Key West Bight. In 2004 Wolf moved to Stock Island and is homeported at Safe Harbor Marina.
Schooner Wolf is also Flagship for WHALE Center’s Waves of Change and PeaceVision, and is known for her Humanitarian Missions of Mercy. Since 1987, the ship has delivered over 80 tons of disaster relief to islanders in need throughout The Bahamas and Caribbean.
This summer Flagship Wolf, in partnership with Bishop Jonathan Carey and the CTC Network, sets sail on her Inaugural Waves of Change Reset Bahamas Humanitarian & Conch Republic Ambassador Voyage. Loaded with 10 tons of lumber for Hope Plaza in Nassau, the voyage coincides with the 50th Anniversary of Bahamian Independence.
