Donation from Publix Makes United Way of the Florida Keys’
Life-Changing Work Possible

FLORIDA KEYS– How does United Way of the Florida Keys support our community?  Helping obtain an ID for a person seeking employment, purchasing a grill for a live-aboard boater with Irma damage so she can cook meals, assisting 2 families moving into rentals after their homes were destroyed by Irma, paying for one night at a motel for two women and their granddaughter who were living in their car while seeking other housing options for this family, and giving out food to 45 clients is just a fraction of what the team at KAIR (Keys Area Interdenominational Resources) does in 1 day, changing lives for Middle Keys residents. Their work, and that of more than 15 other local non-profits, is made possible in part by support from United Way of the Florida Keys.

United Way of the Florida Keys recently received a $76,800 donation from Publix Super Markets Charities, matching donations that their employees make throughout the year. As the largest annual matching donation, this support will go a long way towards making possible UWFK’s life-changing work of providing access to nutritious food, childcare support and safety net services.

Publix runs a robust workplace campaign for UWFK, giving over $105,000 in donations from individual employees at all of their Keys stores. Publix is the largest workplace campaign for UWFK and has been a strong supporter to the Keys community for many years.

As part of their generous workplace campaign and match donation, Publix also designates a special fund to UWFK for a “Last Resort” program. These funds provide emergency assistance to community members who are employed and in need of temporary assistance. The “Last Resort” program is part of UWFK’s mission to help active community members receive safety net services—short term assistance that helps Keys friends and neighbors get back on their feet after financial setbacks. Through provision of these funds to Keys Area Interdenominational Resources and other nonprofit agencies, it ensures that Publix and UWFK’s shared mission serving working families is accomplished throughout Monroe County.

UWFK is incredibly thankful for Publix’s consistent and generous support; their partnership shows that together anything is possible. With their help and the help of many other donors, UWFK has served over 30,000 individuals in the past year and continues to focus on serving the community as we all move beyond Hurricane Irma. Thank you, Publix for showing what it means to Live United!

Donations to support the work of UWFK and their local nonprofit partner agencies are accepted year-round. If you would like to make a donation, give online by clicking the “Donate” button at http://www.keysunitedway.org. Thank you for helping us become the leader in community caring!
