Special Olympics Florida To Host Open Water Swimming Clinic At Swim Miami Event

Competition: Sunday, April 17th, 2016, 8:00 A.M to 12:00 P.M.

Miami Yacht Club, 1001 MacArthur Causeway, Miami, Florida 33132

Why:
Open water swimming debuted at the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens, Greece as a demonstration sport. Open water swimming involves swimming in rivers, lakes, seas, or the ocean, where deep water, lack of lane markings, waves, currents, wind, and other natural elements test the swimmer.

This will be the first Special Olympics Florida open water swimming training clinic. This event will give athletes the opportunity to train and learn best techniques for the sport. The clinic will culminate at the Swim Miami event with competitions for 800 meter, one mile, 5K, and 10K swims, followed by an awards ceremony.

Staff and athletes will be available for interviews.
