Artist Studio Tours
On Saturday, March 19 from 11am-3pm, The Studios of Key West gives you a chance to spend the afternoon peeking into the work spaces of some of the most fascinating artists working on Stock Island, “the Brooklyn of Key West”! For only $20, ticket holders can venture off the rock to visit the studios of nearly two dozen woodworkers, welders, potters, jewelrymakers, painters, and artists working in a fascinating variety of mediums.
Tour the phantasmagorical metal studio of Cindy Wynn, the custom wood shop of Jimmy Wray, the bright and airy ceramics studio of Simone Lasswell and Pam Bluth, plus many other creative spots on Shrimp Road, Front Street, and 5th Avenue. Enjoy live music and Jamaican barbecue at Coast while you visit the funky array of studios of spear gun builders, bonsai gardeners, fiber artists and tiny home builders that make up the community.
New to the tour this year is a stop at Ye Olde Hippie Workshop at 6991 Shrimp Road. The workshop has been a fixture of the Stock Island arts and crafts scene for over 20 years. It is a place where a constantly evolving posse of woodworkers, artists and crafts people share a common work space while exchanging ideas, tools, advice and tall tales about their past.
Full details of all the stops can be found at tskw.org. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased in advance or at Stop #1 (5700 4th Avenue) and Stop #5 (5517 5th Avenue) on the day of the tour. Some parking is available at Stop #1. Call 305-296
