We at Fair Insurance Rates in Monroe (FIRM) are never shy about expressing our views, and so it is that we write concerning your upcoming departure from office.

On a personal level we are pleased for you. You have certainly paid your dues. We are sure that your years as Florida Insurance Commissioner and the nationwide respect you achieved will serve you well in whatever endeavors the future may hold for you.

At the professional and organizational level FIRM (and its 4,000 members) will greatly miss your expertise and management skills. Your willingness to be open to listening and responding to organizations such as FIRM comprise a legacy that we can only hope will continue with your successors. We will not soon forget the rate hearings you held in Key West when virtually any other venue would have been closer to Tallahassee (and considering the issues, in all likelihood friendlier). Nor will we forget the good counsel you have provided us over the years. In Florida, Monroe County and the Keys are as far from Tallahassee as geographically possible yet we always felt we had fair and reasonable access to you and your office.

As we now face a looming flood insurance crisis to add to our extant windstorm insurance issues, we hope that you will still be available to help Florida consumers effectively deal with each of these problems. Your talent and experience can make a tremendous difference in the lives of individuals and the economic well-being of the state. We urge you to stay involved.
