Tenth Anniversary Celebration For SoDu Gallery
In 2005 six local artists remodeled a run down store front on Duval St. to create an exciting new partnership they named Sodu Gallery, in the established southern Duval arts district. To recognize this Ten Year Anniversary, SoDu’s present partners invite everyone to a celebration party on Friday, January 1st, from 6-9pm, during this month’s First Friday Art Stroll, which began as an idea from SoDu!.
The founding artists were, Judi Bradford, Janis Childs, Maritza Cresce,Fran Decker, Lainie Davia, and Leslie Kanter. While three of these artists are still part of the gallery, other artists have come and gone, however, the gallery has been able to sustain itself, which can often be a challenge in the Key West art community. The original ideas, creative energy, and commitment of all of the partners has made SoDu Gallery an important fixture of this community and the Upper Duval Arts District. Their annual “From A Woman’s Hand Show” has been beneficial to Womankind, as well as many local women artists for the past nine years. Each partner has been allowed to create and explore their mediums, while supporting each other”s work in a spirit of cooperation.
Please join us at the gallery, 1102B Duval St., on New Year’s Day, from 6-9pm to celebrate SoDu’s Tenth Anniversary, the New Year, and the opening of a new season of wonderful art! Live music will be provided by Mary Spear and Jason Shore. We look forward to seeing everyone there!
