Bob Williams Presents: Offshore Energy Management / Sustainable Power and the Conveniences it offers
Bob will explore the critical issue of sustainable DC and AC power management aboard cruising yachts with out reliance on generators. This seminar will focus on three principal considerations for balancing energy needs: energy production, energy storage and efficient energy consumption, including a discussion refining the amount of power various loads require. System designs will be considered that allow for everyday luxuries from solar and wind energy. This will include a discussion of the characteristics of various battery technologies, alternator designs, solar array layout options, wind turbines and charge regulation. Examples will be given of common system design flaws often found on new installations. This presentation will provide a solid overview of the basics for a reliable offshore power management system. The perspective gained from this seminar should provide a litmus test in reviewing or upgrading to the required integrity of any system being considered for offshore passage making.
Bob Williams has been involved with the boat building industry since 1976. He apprenticed with Charlie Morgan cold molding and testing prototype hull designs and racing some hulls in MORC. He continued to work with directly with builders in the U.S., China, Singapore and Europe. He holds a 100 ton Masters license and he has delivered many yachts through out the Caribbean. An experienced pilot, he has used his plane to provide on-site technical support in Florida and Bahamas. Through SALT, the company he founded, he has developed innovative products for the marine industry including energy management monitors, controllers, DC Ice makers, eutectic refrigeration, electric propulsion and fully sustainable lifestyle systems for cruising yachts and off-grid homes. In Marathon he built an innovative, passive cooled home on Boot Key Harbor. He also holds a Florida State Solar Contractors License required for the many grid-tie solar homes that SALT has designed and installed through out the Florida Keys.
After knowing Bob Williams for over 25 year, I recently had the opportunity to attend a SALT seminar….
