The summer heats up in July as TheatreXP kicks off its 5th season of Summer Stage at the Red Barn Theatre in Key West.
Headlining a group of intriguing offerings is a Key West revival of Tennessee Williams’ sultry, steamy masterwork, A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE. The play will run Wednesdays through Sundays, July 1-19. The show stars Melody Moore, Tammy Shanley, Michael McCabe, Tom Murtha, Chris Stone, Kaleb Smith, and Caleb Tomai. It is directed by Carole MacCartee. Curtains for all performances are at 8 pm. An Opening Night party after the show is included in the ticket price for that evening.
Monday, July 6th at 8 pm will once again see TheatreXP chosen as the only Monroe County site for the South Florida Theatre League’s Summer Play Festival.LIFE AND DEATH, the new play by Key West playwright Bob Bowersox
(author of the hits Moment of Graceand The Poetry of Hearts) will receive a special premiere reading, featuring several top Key West actors. The evening is free with general seating, and audience members are encouraged to stay after the reading to discuss the play with the playwright and actors and offer suggestions and opinions to aid in the development process of the play.
XP’s innovative and popular
theatresymposium will be back this year, featuring panel discussions which will take a look at various aspects of theater. This year the focuses will be on Stage Managing (Monday, July 13) and The Business of Theatre (Monday, July 20). Panel members will be some of the top players in each discipline. Rounding out the Summer Stage season will be the launch of the brand new
KEY WEST RADIO THEATRE, a rousing evening of fun that brings to life some of the classic serials and programs of the golden age of radio live on stage. There will be 4 shows only, July 22 – 25, with curtains at 8 pm. Top Keys actors will lend voice to “Boston Blackie”, “The Bickersons”, “Our Miss Brooks”, and Orson Welles’ remarkable “War of the Worlds”. On-stage sound effects and actual commercials from the era will enhance the performances (not to mention what happens during the commercials!).
This year, special “Service Industry Nights” have been added on Sunday nights at a reduced rate for those who work during the week and weekend. The “SIN” nights will feature normal reserved seating, with curtains again at 8 pm.
