Why do you suggest that ISIS is “merely” the latest and most publicized example of human degradation? Are you trying to comfort yourself or your readers, with the attitude that this is just another example of what people are capable of? (So don’t be too quick to judge).
People are also capable of great beauty and great courage, so should we stop recognizing or being moved by our better qualities?
Of course not, nor should we become de-sensitized to our baser characteristics. We should never stop being outraged by cruelty and injustice.
