Basilica Benefit Rock ‘n’ Roast Returns Jan. 31
By C.S Gilbert
Get ready, folks – it’s once again the time for joyful tunes and happy tummies. The 8th annual Key West Rock ‘n’ Roast will fill the grounds of the Basilica School with live music, the scent of roast pork and the excitement of one of the island’s largest silent auctions on Saturday, Jan. 31 from 2 till 9 p.m.
“This is an event for young and old alike,” according to the school’s Eileen Dolan-Heitlinger. “Chef John Correa of Café Solé and his talented crew present a traditional Cuban meal with roasted pigs, grilled chicken, a tasty vegetable medley, black beans and rice and wide selection of desserts.”
Musicians booked as of press time are Paul Cotton of Poco, Kai Seemiller, Zack Seemiller, Caffeine Carl Wagoner and Friends and The Bubba System. There will also be a performance by the Basilica Children’s Choir.
In addition, the huge and truly unique silent auction, which last year approached 300 items, will offer “two, possibly three trips to Alaska and a trip to Disney World for a family. Those are our bigger items. A committee member is working on a scooter. The Duncans have agreed to give us another Toyota, so that raffle will begin at Rock ‘n’ Roast,” auction cochairs Kendi O’Neill and Erin Luciani report.
The Basilica School of St. Mary Star of the Sea is located at 700 Truman Ave. Plentiful parking is available in the back lot off Windsor Lane.
Sponsors of the event at press time are KIA Key West, Spanish Gardens Motel and Monroe Concrete.
Tickets are $20 in advance, available at Café Sole, Kia Key West and the school, and $22 at the door the day of the event. Youngster’s tickets remain teens $12, ages 6-12 $5 and little ones 5 and under free. New this year are special VIP options: open bar and dinner for $50 and a private open bar and dinner with tented VIP table seating for $100.
There’s still time to contribute to the amazing auction.”Your item’s bid sheet will include your business name and contact information and auction donors will be recognized on the donors’ sign in the silent auction bidding hall. For more information email [email protected] or contact the school office at (305) 294-1031. Deliver donations to The Basilica School or call to coordinate a pick-up.
All money raised will go to benefit the school. “Bring family, friends and an appetite!” organizers say.
