New 2015 Experiment Summer Abroad Programs

Monroe County Top School District for Studying Abroad

The Experiment in International Living (www.experiment.org) is an 82 year old non-profit organization committed to sending high school students on transformative summer abroad programs. Last summer, nearly 500 students (including twenty-one students from Monroe County, FL) traveled to 21 countries in small, diverse groups to do community service, experience homestays, explore social and political issues, and learn about environmental sustainability overseas.

The Experiment introduces the following new programs for summer 2015:

The Experiment is offering an early application discount of $750 off the program fee for Monroe County, FL students who complete an application at www.experiment.org by Monday, February 2, 2015.

The Experiment’s admissions and financial aid deadline for students seeking financial aid is on March 5 and our admissions deadline for students not applying for financial aid is on April 15.

This past summer 2014, twenty-one students from Monroe County High Schools (Key West, Key West Collegiate, Marathon and Coral Shores high schools) participated in The Experiment in International Living’s cross cultural programs within 14 different countries. The Experiment in International Living offers immersive summer programs for high school students in Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia and the Pacific.

Since 2006, 125 Monroe County students have participated in The Experiment’s innovative cross cultural programs. In fact, Monroe County, Florida, sends more participants every summer to The Experiment than any other school district in the U.S.!

All Monroe students left the U.S. in small groups last June, joining approximately 500 other U.S. and a few international high school students in The Experiment’s annual program of cultural orientation via local immersion. International living experiences involved three to five weeks of language learning, individual home-stays and community involvement in 20 different countries.

Students studied abroad in their assigned country, including: Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, China, Costa Rica, Ecuador, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Morocco, South Africa, Spain, and Thailand.

“I believe strongly in the effectiveness of interactive learning,” Monroe County Educational Foundation president John Padget said. “Experiment programs offer one of the best frameworks for responsible development of young minds and hearts. Students see from new perspectives, respond to unfamiliar challenges and solve problems with initiative and good judgment. It’s life-learning that tests their assumptions and broadens the mind. ”
