City financial information is slated to become a whole lot more transparent.
Key West residents and employees are going to be able to find public financial records on-line with a new $780,000 financial software system city commissioners agreed to purchase at their May 20 meeting. The current software is used by every department in City Hall and is 17 years old.
“The technology is old and has a number of weaknesses,” said Patti McLauchlin, Information Technology Director, in her request for the purchase. Those weaknesses include limited ability to integrate searchable databases, limited management reporting and payroll capabilities, and an inability to process receipts and disbursements electronically, she said in her executive summary to City Manager Bob Vitas.
The old system also has limited or no electronic access for citizens to find public financial records. The new software platform, OneSolution, made by SunGard OneSolution, will correct this, McLauchlin said.
“The new system will also include an e-Portal that will allow citizens and employees access to all the city public financial records. Citizens will have the ability to search vendor payments, contract payments, receipts, etc.,” she said, adding the new system will keep the city “well prepared” for the next 30 years.
