Shepard, Spacek In Netflix Series Set In Upper Keys
Maria Chavex is the Location Manager for the as yet untitled Sony/Netflix television series which will begin filming at the end of March until mid-October. The series consists of 13 episodes and much of the filming will take place in Islamorada and Key Largo. At least one scene will be filmed at Arizona Jacks on Card Sound Road. The base office for the filming company is in Homestead. The series will be executive produced by “Damages” creators Todd A. Kessler, Daniel Zelman and Glenn Kessel.
The series will star Sam Shepard (from the Netflix Drama “Damages”) and Sissy Spacek. Shepard plays the patriarch of a family with four deeply scared siblings and he is the husband of Spacek’s character. The rest of the family is played by Kyle Chandler (“Friday Night Lights”), Linda Cardellini (“Freeks and Geeks”), Ben Mendelsohn (“The Dark Knight Rises”) and Broadway star Norbert Leo Butz. The drama follows how the family’s secrets are exposed when the black sheep oldest brother (Mendelsohn) returns home.
At the March 19 Board Of County Commissioners meeting, Chavex emphasized her desire to establish a very positive relationship with the local community. When the day’s shooting calls for simulated gun shots or the blowing up of a car, she said, local police and fire department personnel will have advance notification and be at the production site. Local residents will also receive advance notice of any loud noises or disruptions to their normal every-day lives. Filming will start the last few days in March and one episode is planned for every nine days. The film company, in addition to the actors and executives, includes a crew of 125.
Chavex did share one morsel that helps fire up audience interest for this psychological thriller. A younger family sibling drowned in a swimming pool several years ago. Now it appears one or more of the remaining siblings are suspected of foul play in that drowning.
