An All-Star Cast Sings for Woman’s Hope – and Habitat for Humanity
The eighth annual Woman’s Hope Concert on Friday, March 14, at 8 p.m. at the Tennessee Williams Cabaret Theatre stars a who’s who of Key West performers, and 100% of the proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity of Key West and the Lower Keys.
An all-star female cast that includes Melody Cooper, Kim Gordon, Deb Hudson, Fiona Molloy, Valerie Carr, Adrienne Zolondick and Dora Gholson is joined by special guests J.B. McLendon and Michael McCabe. This one-of-a-kind show produced by the Key West Woman’s Club features a stellar band with Mike Emerson on guitar, Linda Sparks on piano, Joe Dallas playing bass, Dave Parker on the drums and musical direction by Kim Gordon. With many of Key West’s favorite performers all on one stage, the Woman’s Hope Concert will be an exciting mix of standards, pop, jazz, blues, country, Broadway, Latin, Irish and Trop rock. Tickets are $45-$65 and can be purchased through www.Keystix.com or the Tennessee Williams Theatre box office at 305-296-1520305-296-1520.
“Housing costs here in the Keys can make it difficult for families and individuals to find decent and affordable homes,” said Key West Woman’s Club chairperson Kim Gordon. “So this year, the Woman’s Hope Concert will support the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity, which creates affordable new and rental homes, and makes badly needed repairs to aging or damaged structures to help Keys residents, many of them elderly, safely remain in their own homes.” Proceeds from Woman’s Hope ticket sales will be combined with sponsorship donations, and sponsors will be acknowledged in the concert program. This year, the first $15,000 raised will be doubled thanks to generous matching pledges of $10,000 from the Helmerich Foundation and $5,000 from the Hunter Ward Foundation. The Woman’s Hope Concert was created in 2007 by Kim Gordon with the Key West Woman’s Club, and has since donated $165,000 to help Florida Keys residents in need.
“Annually the Key West Woman’s Club provides between $75,000 and $100,000 to supplement local non-profit budgets and the Woman’s Hope Concert is a big part of this philanthropic effort,” according to Key West Woman’s Club president Roberta Spencer. Founded in 1915, members of today’s Key West Woman’s Club generously give their time to raise funds that aid most every sector of the community.
