Two presentations at TSKW
A Different Light – Gay Artists and the Making of Key West — is being presented at The Studios Of Key West. The event is sponsored by the Helmerich Foundation and curated by Dianne Zolotow. |
In the heady days of Key West’s renaissance beginning in the 1970s, the burgeoning art scene and infusion of gay residents and travelers went hand in hand. Artists from Piero Aversa and Craig Biondi to Van Eno and many others guided the island through the Disco era, the AIDS crisis, increasing commercialization and a mainstreaming of gay rights that far outpaced the rest of the country.
A Different Light argues for the significance of a generation of gay artists, and illuminates the Key West we enjoy today.
Without a Face – ‘the eyes of mental illness’ is a series of constructions and close-up photographs of the eyes of individuals living with mental illness and reflects its ubiquitous nature, providing insight about a taboo subject.
This event is a collaborative art and social cause installation by Sherry Read and Michael A. Philip, produced by Heron Peacock Supported Living through a grant from the Florida Keys Council of the Arts and sponsored by Historic Hideaways. |
