Stock Island man charged with several felonies
A 19-year-old Stock Island man is in the Monroe County Detention Center on numerous felony charges after a crime spree early Saturday.
Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies and detectives responded to a home on Miriam Street at 6 a.m, Saturday, after a man reported an armed gunman at his home. The victim told Det. David Brummer he was awake at 5:30 a.m. when he heard someone open his front door. He saw a man standing inside the door, holding a gun. He said the gunman – later identified as Manuel Argomaniz – pointed the gun at him and told him to put his hands up and not to call the police. He then left out the front door.
The victim said he heard a loud noise outside which sounded like a gunshot – a .45 caliber shell casing was found outside in the street. Others who live in the area also told deputies they heard a gunshot.
Det. Brummer was able to find several video surveillance cameras in the area which showed Argomaniz riding away from the scene on a bicycle. He also received information from Key West Police about an incident with an armed man they were investigating which had taken place just a short time before. In that incident, the victim identified Argomaniz as the man who pointed a gun at him. Key West Police gave Det. Brummer a possible location for Argomaniz – Stock Island Fades and Spa on 3rd Avenue — where Brummer found Argomaniz, still carrying the gun with which he’d threatened the victim.
Brummer is continuing to investigate cases possibly connected to Argomaniz, including a Stock Island burglary in which a gun was stolen.
Argomaniz was charged with home invasion robbery, two counts of burglary, grand theft, being armed while committing a felony crime and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. He also had four outstanding warrants for violation of probation when he was arrested. More charges are pending.
