BINGO! The Winning Musical, By Michael Heitzman and Ilene Reid, opens next week with madcap capers, Mermanesque belted songs and a peek into the quirky but genuine soul of Bingo players.

The legendary Vicki Roush leads a powerhouse cast of Key West theatre favorites through witty lines, “songs to bring down the house” (LA Times), and a storm story we can identify with. Directed by Joy Hawkins.

The playwrights did their research in the bingo halls of America: “The bingo players are wonderful people who share a passion, okay, maybe an obsession, for the game. They live to play every week – because of the gambling? Maybe. Because of the camaraderie? Definitely. But mostly because it’s just really fun.”

And that is the basis of BINGO! The Winning Musical.

Bingo is a splashy, zippy, outrageously funny new musical. Three girlfriends, Vern, Honey and Patsy brave driving through a terrible storm rather than miss their weekly game. The story of their strange rituals and fierce competitions unfolds as the Bingo numbers are called. And as the night and the storm progress, love blossoms and fractured friendships are examined.

“Extremely funny and whimsical,” said Associated Press.

BINGO! Opens December 17 and is the official start of the Red Barn Theatre’s 34th season. The opening night party is catered by the Pier House.
