“Smilin’ and Feelin’ Good” Arts Council Members’ Show at the Gato – Opening reception: Friday November 4th at 5:00 pm.
Florida Keys Council of the Arts announces its Annual Members exhibit hosted in the Historic Gato building, 1100 Simonton Street. Join the artists for an opening reception this Friday November 4th from 5 – 7 pm.
Arts Council staff member, Reen Stanhouse chose the theme, Smilin’ and Feelin’ Good, to add some levity to this (otherwise serious) election season. This show offers local artists the opportunity to contribute original work to the exhibit, with a theme that promotes an optimistic atmosphere, art that makes the viewer smile, and conveys the whimsy of visual arts. Over 35 member artists shared their vision for this show, drawn from the positive inspiration of living in the beautiful surroundings of the fabulous Florida Keys. The water, the sky and island living is interpreted through diverse mediums; including photography, fabric, acrylic, clay, metal, sculpture and watercolors.
Artists in the exhibit include: Phyllis Bennet, Nicholas Bergery, Laura Black, Gerald Boris, Joyce Carpenter, Susann D’Antonio, Fran Decker, Ganine Giorgione Derleth, Linda Egan, Margo Ellis, Marisa Clohecy Garrett, Denise Graham, Jane Grannis, CJ Groth, Leo Gullick, Alan Kennish, Betty Powell Klimock, Renee Lanier, Paula Leftwich, M. Ann Lynch, Yolanda V. Maloney, Sandy Mezinis, Gail P. Miller, Susan O’Neill, Lucy Paige, Natacha Palay, Claire Perrault, Bob Slitzan, Gary Sloan, Joanne Sloan, Janis Jo Stevens, Sandy Sun, Katie Truax, Gale Upmal, John B. Visceglia, Gabrielle Wilson, Barbara Zappulla and many other artists.
The Gato building, which is home to many State and County offices, supports the Art in Public Buildings program which offers an alternate space for artists to display their work.
The Florida Keys Council of the Arts supports visual, literary and performing artists and cultural organizations throughout the Keys with several grant programs and scholarships. We connect artists to each other and to their audiences.
1100 Simonton Street – 5:00-7:00 pm. Free Parking and please join other gallery receptions for the Upper Duval First Friday Walk after visiting the Members Show!
