Islamic Relief USA Volunteers On Board To Help Hurricane Irma Evacuees

Orlando, Fla. – Islamic Relief USA will have volunteers at shelters in Central and Northern Florida to house evacuees affected by Hurricane Irma, coming from the Miami area.

The organization’s Disaster Response Team has been working with community and masjid leaders to set up shelters. Two masjids – the Salih Mosque and the Islamic Center of Orlando – will open their doors to take in evacuees. Each masjid is expected to have several cots, and priority will be given to people with disabilities and the elderly. Evacuees are strongly encouraged to bring sleeping bags.

Islamic Relief has approximately 10 volunteers.

“We provide trained volunteers to staff shelters,” said Hani Hamwi, leader of IRUSA’s Disaster Response Team.

Officials are planning to also have a trailer on site that will provide cots, blankets, and first-aid kits.
