Monroe County Hosts Veterans Day Ceremony in Key Largo and Participates in Key West Veterans Day Parade

KEY LARGO and KEY WEST, FL – Monroe County Veterans Affairs will host a Veterans Day ceremony to honor all who served on Monday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Murray Nelson Government Center in Key Largo. The Key Largo School band will be playing a selection of patriotic songs, including the national anthem, “God Bless America,” and “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee.” The ceremony will include program speaker John Donnelly, a U.S. Marine Purple Heart recipient, and a Veterans Day video tribute of Olde Glory.

Later that day, Monroe County Veterans Affairs will also participate in the Key West Veterans Day Parade at 5 p.m. The Key West parade is hosted by Naval Air Station Key West and will run along Duval Street.

Veterans Day celebrates the formal ending of World War I on the 11th hour, of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 and is a national holiday observed for all honorably discharged military veterans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

“This is a day to honor all of our American heroes who selflessly served our Country,” said Cathy Crane, Director of Monroe County Veterans Affairs. “There is no better way to show our pride than being able to host this ceremony and participate in the parade.”
